Any Other Business Minutes: Blaby District Council Local Plan
Cllr. Maggie Wright advised that the Blaby District Local Plan 2025–2042, which proposes the delivery of approximately 658 new homes per year had been published for public consultation.
Cllr. Maggie Wright encouraged residents to submit their comments as part of the consultation process and explained that information on local allocated development sites can be viewed online. She advised that there are currently two allocated sites in Thurlaston.
Cllr. Maggie Wright circulated a printed map showing the allocated sites within the local area, together with a poster detailing the dates and venues of Local Plan drop-in information sessions being held throughout July and August 2026.
Cllr. Maggie Wright also advised that the Blaby District Local Plan 2025–2042 would remain in effect regardless of any future Local Government Reorganisation arrangements.
Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)
Cllr. Maggie Wright provided an update on the Local Government Reorganisation across Leicestershire and shared a map with residents to illustrate the proposed expanded authority boundary.
Cllr. Maggie Wright also outlined the planned timetable for the reorganisation and highlighted the key milestones and deadlines associated with the transition process advising that vesting day for the new authority is currently 1 April 2028.
Cllr. Maggie Wright explained that local district council elections are currently scheduled to take place in 2027 however, she advised that these are likely to be postponed as a result of Local Government Reorganisation.
A47 Cycle Route
Residents raised concerns regarding the condition of the cycle path along the A47, advising County Councillor Kevin Crook that it is no longer considered safe for cyclists due to a lack of maintenance at the edge of the highway.
Cllr. Maggie Wright noted that highway verge cutbacks are typically carried out locally between October and March. However, residents stated that they have not seen any noticeable improvements or maintenance work undertaken on this section of the road for a number of years.
Cllr. Kevin Crook advised residents that any issues requiring attention can be reported directly to him so that they can be raised appropriately. |
